Madonna of the Trail.

(Thanks for the pic, Kerri!)

This lady was definitely the early version of a military wife. Bravery. Valor. Hardworking. Responsible. Fearless. Leader. Could hold her baby and shoot dinner at the same time while sporting the combat boots in style...which we all still do today in one form or another!

This particular statue is located in Council Grove, KS but is a part of a series of 12 monuments dedicated to the spirit of pioneer women in the United States. The monuments were commissioned by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution in the 1920's and were placed along the National Old Trails Highway and extended from Maryland to California.
Strong, amazing women have been the backbone of this country for generations!!
