We had a great day of fall festivities! A local farm, Munson Angus Farm, hosted a day for the Combat Aviation Brigade. It was wonderful. We were greeted with a bag of smores fixin's and a wonderful bonfire. A little stroll up farther, we were greeted by some beautiful black Percheron horses (in the draft horse family) and a hamburger/coleslaw/BBQ bean lunch. The meat was homegrown on the farm, all natural and tasted great! Then we took a hayride into the pumpkin patch led by George and Ben from Iowa, who each weighed over 2000 lbs! We got off the carriage and explored the pumpkin patch. Kilian took a few minutes to get comfortable with all the creepy crawlies, mud encased corn cobs (which freaked him for some reason, till I made him pick one up and throw it), and rotten pumpkins (which after someone mentioned raccoons, he told me that raccoons ate every rotten pumpkin we walked by). Then he got into everything and even husked some corn! After the ride back, we enjoyed homemade ice cream (made from all natural cream from a nearby dairy) and headed on to Trunk or Treat. Our Battalion set up a Trunk or Treat event for the kiddos, which consisted of cars lining up, decorated trunks and "trunk or treating." We used to do this in Germany on the Post, bc Halloween isn't celebrated in Germany and we couldn't go trick or treating (they have their own similiar holiday called Fasching and it happens during the Lent/Mardi Gras season.) You couldn't trick or treat on post in Germany? In Bamberg, it was a MADHOUSE...the Germans would come onto post (basically open post on that day) and the field grade officer housing would get SLAMMED...you could barely move! They had other things too...cider, etc and it was conveniently set up at a park right at the entrance to the f/g officer housing, lol! We did it...it was nuts. I'd have hated to live up there - I heard they went through $60-100 in candy. They gave out thousands of pieces of candy!
